In order to live a life you’ve never lived—you must be willing to do things you’ve never done. —Jen Sincero
Have you ever thought about how our reality is based upon social norms—rules that were made up about how we all should act.
It’s strange to think that at one point in time—people just decided that doing things a certain way was acceptable and doing things another way meant you were crazy.
“Oh no, it’s the herd mentality speech.”
Nah, I’m not going that deep.
I just have this little thought experiment.
I’ve been really trying to shift from thinking to doing.
It’s not easy.
You know what’s easy? Thinking outside the box.
Thinking about ways to be successful.
Thinking about a business or product idea.
Thinking about being a great guitar player.
Thinking about having a blog.
Thinking about taking cool photos.
Thinking about living your dream life.
Thinking outside the box is easy. I do it all the time.
The hard part is acting outside the box.
This goes back to my first question. We can think outside the box all day long. #nobodycares
The minute we start acting outside the box—that’s when people start paying attention.
That’s when you start getting strange looks.
That’s when people start to think you might be a little cooky.
Acting outside the box requires us to question societal norms. It demands that we cast aside the status quo in order to envision a new life for ourselves.
This is not easy. It goes against our upbringing, our friends, our family, our society.
Living a creative life, innovating, and breaking the rules requires that we must think outside the box. But more importantly—we must act on those thoughts—in spite of looking crazy.
“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” —Steve Jobs
Crazy people change the world.
So my thought experiment or rather—my acting experiment for the upcoming week will be to act out my creative thoughts. The crazy thoughts.
No more daydreaming.
No more deep thinking.
No more note cards.
No more flow charts.
It’s time to make a list of all the create thoughts & ideas that you have and begin implementing them.
Leave a comment below sharing one thought that you will act out this week.
Thanks for reading.
