“It’s the end of the world (and I feel fine).”

Oh hey all you cats and kittens,

It’s me, your boy Tim.

I just finished binge watching 16 hours of the Corona Virus Task Force briefing. I’ve repurposed my tin foil hat into a sort of Mad Max breathing apparatus. I put on my new tiger print shirt and I’m seconds away from trimming my beard into a strange handlebar mustache. All this to go stand in line in the Walmart parking lot—and hopefully thereby gain entrance in order to purchase a couple packages of NONFAT powdered milk (for a bread recipe).

Whew—

Anyways—

End Of The World-18

End Of The World-14

Speaking of masks—one way to help other people practice social distancing, is to wear a mask in public. I was wearing one in Home Depot recently and people were physically avoiding me——literally tripping and running into shelving in order to stay away. It was great.

Meanwhile, some guy standing in line joked saying, “Why should I wear a mask? It’s not like I go around coughing and sneezing on people.” Smh.

End Of The World-7

End Of The World-3

It’s the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine).

Now that you’ve got a catchy R.E.M. classic rolling around in your head—imagine what Lenny Bruce would say about our current predicament.

Nobody knows what to do!

Do we wear masks or not? Do we barricade ourselves indoors—or make jokes at the hardware store as we stock up for our weekend project?

End Of The World-5

“Life is no way to treat an animal.” ——Kurt Vonnegut

Let this be a reminder that our reality is an illusion. Its times like these that the absurdity of life is as apparent as a set of meth teeth. All the tiger print in the world can’t cover up the fact that our leadership is just as strange, flawed, and clueless as the guy at the next zoo.

Maybe it’s just my way of coping with the pandemic——I can’t help but sit back and laugh.

End Of The World-19

End Of The World-15

After all, my job as a street/documentary photographer is to capture the strange, the ironic, the absurd. I thrive during times like these—when all I have to do is walk around the block to see something interesting.

End Of The World-16

End Of The World-17

I’m actually enjoying all the isolation; the home cooking, extra time to organize closets, and work on new projects.

It’s the end of the world and I feel fine.

Does that make me a bad person?

End Of The World-20

End Of The World-2

End Of The World-12

When things fall apart, my instinct is to just create something interesting out of it. Or make fun of it.

End Of The World-9

End Of The World-6

As I’m writing this, dozens of people are walking by my picture window. I don’t ever remember this much foot traffic in our area. The tennis courts are full of people talking and laughing. Entire families pass by—which is something interesting in itself. When do you ever see mom, dad, & kids hanging out together? It’s weird right?

People are spending more time outdoors—fishing, biking, hiking, having picnics in the park, nerf wars, porch dinners etc. Maybe we’ll all develop some healthy habits before this is over.

As I said in my last post, out of all the chaos——there’s a lot of positivity and opportunity for growth.

We just have to pay attention.

End Of The World-1

End Of The World-8

I guess what I’m trying to say here, the point of this blog, given our current circumstances—is that we can either laugh or cry.

I choose to laugh.

Wear a mask—or don’t???

Stay 6 back feet, take it easy Tiger—thanks for reading.

  1. No it doesn’t make you a bad person at all! It means that you are being optimistic which is what we all ought to be doing. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 And you’re right, it would be awesome if people created some good habits and brought them out of the situation!

  2. Such an awesome series of daily images documenting this chaos in a very positive way.
like you, somehow I’m very fine. Just driving to the office every day, using a mask when going to the small local supermarket (the big places are too crowded with the long lines of the waiting ppl and I have no patience for this, better I will stay hungry).
    stay safe
